Below are example projects from our time before Cofactory.

Cell Phenotyping

We developed Data Analysis pipelines to clean and interpret results from a cell phenotyping array used for bioprocess QC, discovery and Root Cause Analysis.

We also drove Product Development efforts, including developing and delivering marketing collateral at major conferences, plus onboarding and supporting customers.

Client: European bioanalytics SME.

Low-Energy Computing

Technology Development project to integrate a novel coprocessor into Deep Learning frameworks to implement fast, low-energy convolutions for image processing.

Client: UK novel computing SME

Green Biomanufacturing

Commissioned by the UK Medicines Discovery Catapult to report on Sustainability issues and opportunities in Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing.

tldr; The majority of emissions are associated with the energy costs of filtering air (HVAC) and water (water-for-injection grade).

Cell Culture Media

Project lead and data analyses to identify chemically-defined cell culture media to replace serum for the CGT sector, discovery of bioactives in CHO feedstocks, troubleshooting media supply chain issues for Biologics and Microbial Fermentation.

Clients: Biopharma manufacturers, Cell Culture providers, High-Value Chemicals Manufacturers

Cell Image Analysis

Prototyping and maturing AI image processing technologies, teams and deployment software for both Bioprocessing and Drug Discovery.

Clients: European bioanalytics SME, multinational pharmaceutical company.

NGS Wastewater Pathogen Surveillance

Optimisation and validation of Next-Generation Sequencing pipelines for SARS-CoV-2 surveillance in wastewater samples during the pandemic 

Client: Government agency

CHO Transcriptomics

Comparative transcriptomics on Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells to understand mAb production differences between clone candidates in late-stage Cell Line Development.

Sequencing data also leveraged to identify genome minimisation targets for next-generation production chassis.

Client: Multinational pharmaceutical company.

Bioreactor Design

Microbial bioreactors are costly due to being over-specified. We worked with academics to build and test the performance of a simple and very affordable 25L airlift bioreactor. We’ve also built microbioreactors, programmable dosing pumps and heater/chiller jackets for biphasic operation of methanotroph reactors.

Drug Discovery

Various SAR (Structure-Activity Relationship) modelling projects to support hit-to-lead development and ADMET issues, including development of latent phase-targeting antivirals, and novel calcium channel inhibitors.

Clients: UK universities.
